When a family doesn't know where to start
with elder care options, they start with us.

The reason we started Accountable Aging Care Management (AACM) was to provide peace of mind for family members and to support the quality of life for aging seniors. That's why AACM provides a unique combination of eldercare consulting and care management today. We offer an objective*, third-party perspective on both the resources available through community organizations and through paid service providers. We will manage the ongoing care situation as you need.

The firm, founded in 2002 by Mary and Mick Koffend, specializes in helping families navigate the maze of eldercare options in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio by providing a unique combination of elder care consulting and care management.

AACM understands the needs of families as well as their loved ones. Through our service offerings, we provide the often neglected "management" piece, which includes taking care of the details. We are here to provide solutions to your challenges.

The advantage of our firm is that our team has experts in many areas from home care, rehabilitation, nursing, faith counseling, financial oversight, social work, government benefits and programs, gerontology and education. Although we work as a team, we provide a single point of contact for the care providers, elder and family. It just makes it easier for everyone.

How We Got Started

In the late 1990's Mick and Mary Koffend faced difficult decisions with elder members of their own family and with family members living with a disability. They found they did not have access to consolidated information, guidance or resources that they needed. "We went to assisted living facilities and they said, 'yes, your aunt/dad would benefit from an assisted living environment.' We went to in-home nursing companies and they said, 'yes, your aunt/dad would benefit from in-home nurses.' How could we know the right choice?" asked Mick. Even if we knew all our options, we didn't have enough information to evaluate our options in a meaningful way. After much investigation into the eldercare landscape and because they were not alone in this need for consolidated information and care management, they created Accountable Aging Care Management in 2002 as an objective*, third-party eldercare service consulting and care management company. (Originally named Accountable Aging, Inc. (AAI))

"We wanted to be the single source for seniors and their families to attain knowledge, resources and on-going assistance with the challenges related to aging or caring for an elder loved one," said Mary. Since 2002, they have continued to offer clients compassion, commitment, and a highly personal understanding of the real concerns families must address to ensure an elder family member's financial, residential, emotional and physical well-being. Today, they share this passion with a dedicated, multi-disciplinary Care Management Team that serves seniors in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Together, they coordinate efforts with families wherever they live -- whether down the road from their senior or across the country.
